This was on my algebra homework, I am awful at word problems. Please help!

Dan and Lisa went on vacation. It costs $20 a day to rent lawn chairs and $15 a day to rent umbrellas. The total Lisa and Dan both spent was $245. Lisa spent 1 day less than Dan. How much did Dan spend?

A. $17
B. $140
C. $80
D. Other and specify the amount.

The answer is B. You divid the total (245) by the total spent each day (35). That should leave you with the amount of days (7). Then since it does not divid evenly between the two, you look at the problem and it tells you that lisa spent a day less. (Lisa=3 days, Dan=4) Then you multiply the total cost per day (35) by how many days Dan spent (4) and you get your total amount of money (140
