In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin.

In type 2 diabetes, your body does not use insulin properly. This is called insulin resistance.

With type 2 diabetes, the body still produces insulin but it is insufficient or ineffective. Approximately 90% of diabetes cases are type 2. Prediabetes is a condition when the blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for the diagnosis of diabetes.
