The part of the experiment in which the experiment factor has been removed is refereed to as the INDEPENDENT VARIABLE.

In scientific investigations, variables refers to any factor or condition that exist in differing quantity. Typically, experiments always have two basic types of variables, these are dependent and independent variables. The independent variables are those variables whose values can be changed or controlled. Researchers always change the values of independent variables to determine their resultant effects on dependent variables.
