What happens to an enzyme when it performs its function?

An enzyme is like any other catalyst in a chemical reaction. Catalysts take part in a reaction but are not consumed. Thus, after an enzyme has performed its function, it moves on to the next substrate molecule and acts on it. It is unaffected by the reaction.
