Material that is in orbit around a massive central body is an accretion disk. This disk can eventually turn into a white dwarf star.
An accretion disc may eventually form planets such as the ones in our solar system.

An accretion disk may eventually form a solar system

Accretion disks are basically universal in the cosmos. They can be spotted circling several types of stars, galactic cores, gamma-ray bursts, and black holes which are estimated to be at the center of most galaxies anyway. They can accommodate sizable quantities of matter with a notable intercommunication among the matter as the disks circle around their center body.
