Chemical digestion uses enzymes to break down food via secretions of enzymes throughout the digestive tract. These enzymes break the chemical bonds that hold food particles together. Chemical digestion begins in the mouth since saliva contains digestive enzymes that start off the process of chemical digestion and continues in the stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
