The signers all agreed to follow the same laws for an organized government. All men on the Mayflower, both pilgrims and non-pilgrims were expected to sign it.

The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth colony, and it was established by the English settlers that travelled aboard the Mayflower. Although the original text has been lost, we know that the compact promised all settlers would remain loyal subjects to King James and that they would live according to the Christian faith. Signers also agreed to cooperate to create a peaceful society and laws, ordinances and offices for the good of the colony.
