Sobel vehemently denied it. “So why you look for strange boys in the street they should go out with Miriam? Why you don’t think of me?” How does this excerpt from “The First Seven Years” by Bernard Malamud contribute to the story’s plot?
It is part of the story’s exposition.
It is part of the story’s climax.
It is part of the story’s falling action.
It is part of the story’s rising action.

The exposition is the beginning of the story where they introduce characters and conflict hasn't really happened yet. I do not think this is exposition.
Climax is the story's turning point, where problems have occurred and are being dealt with.
Falling action is where the problems are being resolved and it's close to the end of the story.
Rising action is where the problems are beginning to happen.
By the looks of it, it seems this would be Falling Action, mainly because a problem has occurred and it also seems like its being resolved.
