Answer: a. d. shallow water

A coral reef is a part of the aquatic ecosystem that is formed by the colonies of animals called as polyps. These animals secrete hard carbonate exoskeletons that supports and protects the coral polyps. Most corals grow in the water bodies which have shallow, and clear water that receives maximum sunlight.

D is the correct answer. Coral reefs need sunlight to grow, so they grow best in shallow water (up to 50m deep) as this means sunlight can reach them. They require salt water to grow and warm temperatures of 20 - 32 degrees Celsius.
