the x^2 cancels

(2x^2)/(x^4) =8

(2)/(x^2) =8
times both sides by x^2
2=8x^2
divide both sidesby 8
1/4=x^2
sqrt both sides
+/-1/2=x

x=-1/2 and 1/2

2x²/x⁴=8
2(x²/x⁴)=8
2(1/x²)=8
2=8x²
x²=2/8
x²=1/4
x=⁺₋√(1/4)
x=⁺₋1/2

Answer: we have two solutions: -1/2 and 1/2
