The Haitian revolution was the period when they attempted to eliminate slavery in the Haiti area, while sugar production heavily depended on extensive manual labor works by mainly slaves. So, many sugar makers and planters moved to Cuba to continue their work.

Saint Domingue during the colonial period was one of the wealthy colony in the world because of the plantation (sugar). The economy based on slavery system. The revolt was fought to get free from their masters and to get freedom and equal rights. With the success of the revolt for former slaves, the economy was clashed and was never able to hold its position.
