This principle was scientifically establishes and popularized by Taylor.
The division of labor leads to specialization and this leads to efficiency.
When a labor is complex, i.e. requires many different steps, you should divide the total work into different tasks and permit that every employee develop expertise in one different task to get the greatest efficiency for every task.
