In The Odyssey, Odysseus tells us of when him and his men first encountered the Lotus-Eaters. The men were given lotus flowers to eat, which drugged them into being blissful. The effect made them want to continuosly eat the lotus and forget they ever wanted to return home, causing Odysseus to drag them back to the ship.
