if a yeast cell is exposed to conditions that limit the amount of oxygen available, what is the most likely result? fermentation will take place to produce low levels of atp. cellular respiration will continue to take place. glycolysis will occur and atp production will cease. the yeast will die very quickly.

The correct answer is "fermentation will take place to produce low levels of atp".

Fermentation is a process which produces ATP for a micro organism in anaerobic conditions so that it can survive even in the scarcity of oxygen. In the absence of oxygen, cellular respiration does not take place. But, an organism needs energy in order to survive so in order to survive in the absence of oxygen, it switches to another mechanism of energy production i.e. fermentation. In fermentation, the organism is able to harness energy from carbohydrates in the form of ATP. Although, through fermentation the yield of ATP is comparatively less than cellular respiration yet it helps the micro organism to survive.
