We have to calculate the perimeter of this rectangular playground.

1) we calculate the lenght of this rectangular playground.

Area of a rectangle=length x width

Data:
area=8,635 yd²
width=75 yd.

Therefore:
8,635 yd²=(75 yd)(width)
width=8,635 yd² / 75 yd≈115.13 yd.

2) We calculate the perimeter of this rectangular playground.

Perimeter of a rectangle=2(length) + 2(width)

Data:
lenght=115.13 yd
width=75 yd

Perimeter:2(115.13 yd)+2(75 yd)=380.26 yd.

Answer: We only need 380.26 yards of fencing to enclose the playground, and the park district has 400 yards of fencing, therefore 400 yards of fencing is enough to completely enclose the playground.
