The length of a dance floor to be replaced is 1 foot shorter than twice than width. You measured the width to be 12.25 feet. What is the area and what is the most accurate area you can report?

12.25x2=24.50 (width x2)
24.50-1=23.50 (length)


Area= LxW
=23.50x12.25
=287.88 feet

∵ the length of a dance floor to be replaced is 1 foot shorter than twice than width.

So, the length of the dance floor = 2x - 1

According to the question,

x = 12.25 ft,

⇒ 2x - 1 = 2(12.25) -1 = 23.5 ft,

Thus, the area of the floor = length × width

= 23.5 × 12.25

= 287.875 square feet.
