The sons of liberty had a protest slogan that said "no taxation without representation." not only the higher prices made the colonists angry but they were concerned with their lack of political power. They objected to being regulated or taxed by a foreign legislature in which they had no elected representatives.

Taxation without representation is where the government puts taxes on the people when the people didn't consent.
