An atom consists of a positively charged nucleus that is surrounded by electrons revolving around it at a distance on discrete orbits... The nucleus of an atom contains protons that are positively charged and neutrons that have no charge of their own. Electrons are negatively charged.... because of the protons the nucleus is positively charge and the weight of the atom is also due to the nucleus ...

hope it helps !!!
