This one is quite simple. Subtract 4x from both sides, and you get x-7=-1. Add 7 on both sides, and you get x=6

5x - 7 = 4x - 1...subtract 4x from both sides
5x - 4x - 7 = -1...add 7 to both sides
5x - 4x = -1 + 7...simplify
x = 6
