The beliefs of Judaism that emphasizes on the worth of individual is that an  individual is equated to a universe - to kill a single person is to end an entire universe. Jewish law gave slaves and women rights.  The guidelines summarized by 'an eye for an eye' set out economic compensation for loss of income due to injury .
