a farmer is planting fields that include flat areas and gently graded hills. what plowing method should he use to best prevent erosion? explain your answer.

Since you have some hills going on, I would suggest contour plowing. Contour plowing basically makes your fields run perpendicular to the slope, rather than going straight down. If there is some sort of rain runoff, plowing straight down would practically make a pathway, carrying soil particles with it. But contour plowing would help to lessen that :)
