The wealth gap, more commonly known as wealth inequality, is the state of wealth and assets being unevenly distributed among the population. For example, in 2014, the wealthiest 1% owned 40% of the USA’s wealth, and the bottom 80% owned just 7% of the wealth. An obvious argument against the wealth gap is that it perpetuates inequality, particularly along race and class lines.
