Sense of identity.

Our sense of personal identity is shaped by our experiences and interactions with others, and it is this identity that helps to guide our actions, beliefs and behaviors and helps us grow and develop throughout our lives.

During the first year of life the child totally dependent on the parents, requiring care regarding food, hygiene, locomotion, learning, as well as stimulation to realize that there is a world in movement around them. The Psychosocial Development Theory proposed by Erikson emphasizes the development of the ego as one of the main factors of identity formation. The first social interaction of a child occurs with the parents, so that if this contact is appropriate, the child will have confidence in the people and in the world.
