Gas - Large spaces between the molecules, usually move at high velocities, can be easily compressed.

Liquid - Particles are much close together and very little compression can occur.

Solid - Particles have fixed position around which they can vibrate and pass the energy to the neighbouring particles. Cannot be compressed.
