that means you can find the area of the big shape ignoring that there are holes then subtract the area of the holes

big shape side length is 5*2

=10

small shape 1:

0.3*0.3

=0.09

small shape 2:

0.6*2

10-(0.09+ 1.2)

10-(1.29)

=8.71
