I see this question to refer to the historical development of languages and one idea that comes to my mind is the development of new languages in an area of language contact.

The first stage is then a "Pidgin" -a basic, rudimentary system of communication, and the second stage would be a "creole" , such as Tok Pisin, the language in Papua New Guinea.
