y - x = 5 . . . (1)
3x + y = 1 . . . (2)
From (1), y = 5 + x . . . (3)
Putting (3) into (2), gives
3x + 5 + x = 1
4x = 1 - 5 = -4
x = -4/4 = -1
From (3), y = 5 + (-1) = 5 - 1 = 4
Therefore, solution is (-1, 4)
