A. 100 years. Because The Energy Information Administration currently estimates that the U.S. is sitting on 2,203 Tcf (trillion cubic feet) of technically recoverable natural gas. Technically recoverable means that the resource can be produced with existing technology, and includes proved (estimated quantities under current economic and operating conditions) and unproved (irrespective of economics or operating conditions). The EIA states “At the rate of U.S. natural gas consumption in 2011 of about 24 Tcf per year, 2,203 Tcf of natural gas is enough to last about 92 years.
