Spartans, when compared to other people in Greece (especially Athens), were more focused on war. Less time for culture, less housekeeping, less cultural and philosophical teachings, less art. It's all about training people for war and for the women who don't fight, giving birth to future warriors.
But for what it's worth, Sparta really is one of the most powerful city states when it comes to warfare.

The Spartans focused more on militaristic strength than on philosophical and intellectual pursuits. They gave more respect to women than other Greek city states. Their government was less democratic than other areas of Greece.
