As many of the states taht were being formed were coming out of an Empire or were colonies before that, the separation of powers became something vital for the formation of the new ways of govern, this way no man would have the weight alone and all of the power that runnning a country gives you. This way there would be dialogue when desicions have to me made and they shouldn´t be taken by one single ruler that could become again an emperor or a sole ruler.

Popular sovereignty refers the principle of government which ruled by the will from the majority of the people.

In democratic country such as united states (and most of the countries in western hemisphere) , this would be included in most state constitutions.
