n 1926 Erwin Schrödinger, an Austrian physicist, took the Bohr atom model one step further. Schrödinger used mathematical equations to describe the likelihood of finding an electron in a certain position. This atomic model is known as the quantum mechanical model of the atom.some experimental measurement has to be made which can't be explained by modern atomic theory. Until we have a REASON for altering a theory, we do not. Scientists must test and agree on a new theory

Before this theory can be replaced, the one that must happen is : D. Scientists must test and agree on a new theory

After numerous tests are done and it's proven to be a better theory and can be more generally accepted than the previous one, that the previous theory could be replaced

hope this helps
