I read the short story, the dialogue between Travis and Lesperance reveals how upset he is about Eckels' having left the path.
The dialogue is an example of INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION. This is because Travis did not directly state that he is upset with Eckels. Instead he showed his anger by calling Eckels a fool and barring him from going back to the future.
