Why did John Adams face challenges as President?

He faced issues with a separation in his political party. He cost himself-reelection when he signed the Alien and Sedition Acts which are composed of 4 laws that are allegedly designed to save the state from foreign harm but the truth was they were made to halt the criticism of the Federalist Party leadership.

The French were seizing the ships and interfering with right to trade.
They wanted Adams to go to war. Adams knew going to war was not in his best interests, so even though it hurt him politically.
