The Monroe Doctrine was  a declaration by the United States of hegemony or supremacy in the Americas region in the early 1800s. The Monroe Doctrine, which was issued in 1823 declared that any European intervention into North or South America would be viewed as an act of aggression which would require an American military response to the action taken.
