C. the provision for an orderly succession to the throne prevented civil wars

Like any other empire and kingdom in the ancient times, the Byzantine empire's throne succession is chaotic. Constant revolts, plots, and assassination attempt to overtake the throne and the unorderly provision in the succession always been a problem to the empire.
