The equation is expressed as 3x- 0.5 * (8x-2). In this case, the first step is through distributive property resulting to 3x - 4x + 1 = 4. The incorrect step is the proceeding step (step 2) in which x should have negative sign instead of positive as -4x + 3x is -x. This affects the proceeding steps and thus the answer.
