The patient registration chargemaster is simply a listing of all items that could be billed to a patient, during a hospital stay or procedure. This listing is typically discussed with the patient during the registration process, right before they sign their consent to bill medical insurance. The medical coder is the person who, once a patient has been released from the hospital, assigns the appropriate CPT and ICD codes to the patient's billing sheets. for now!
