11a + 9 = 4a + 30 take the a's to one side and the numbers to the other
11a - 4a = 30 - 9
7a = 21
a = 21/7
a = 3

You would subtract 4a from both sides to get 7a + 9 = 30. Then you should subtract 9 from both sides to get 7a = 21. Then divide both sides by 7. Final answer: a=3
