Is plagiarism different from academic plagiarism? Yes, plagiarism in general is copying and or using someones writing without asking them and/or giving them credit(citing their work). The consequences in an academic setting could be as extreme as expulsion from the school. With generic plagiarism, you may have some form of punishment like being sued by the parties whose work your plagiarized.
