Most likely, the lavish style of the elite class, as well as the horrible conditions the peasants and common people had to face and the taxes they had to pay (because most of the French money went into helping the Americans during the American Revolution, and the French were in very deep debt after it.) But, it was also inspired by the Enlightenment, as well as liberal and radical ideas
