For one thing, compound light microscopes uses light as the source. It has two lenses- the eyepiece and the objective lenses with different magnifications. The scanning electron microscope uses a ray of electrons to produce accurate and high definition images. It has a very complex and tedious structure with a chamber, column, detector etc.
