Luster is used to describe something that reflect light off a surface. There are two type of luster used by mineralogist to classify minerals namely metallic and nonmetallic minerals. The type of luster which gives the mineral the appearance of metal is the metallic and submetallic type. Minerals under this category are opaque and reflective like a metal. Examples are pyrites, sphalerite and cinnabar.
