The term for sedimentary rock that is composed of material evaporated from seawater is called a chemical sedimentary rock. Chemical sedimentary rocks are also called as evaporites because they are formed when seawater evaporates. When the sea water heats up, it can no longer hold as much as calcium carbonate in the solution. As a result, the calcium carbonate is precipitated from the solution and becomes calcite forming limestone.
