Herbivory is the interaction in which an animal consumes plants. It can also be applicable to other autotrophs such as algae and photosynthesizing bacteria. Herbivores are also called primary consumers. These animals have wide flat teeth that are adapted to eating tough plant materials such as grasses and tree barks.
