It identifies Rama as supernatural. The Valmiki story is that he was a dacoit which means bandit. In order to change him Lord Shani made up a situation for Valmiki to realize that he was wrong. Shani taught Valmiki 'Mara', which means 'death'. That made Valmiki to say 'Rama' out of blue. After that he has been transformed and became a saint.
