In Sep 1955, Bryant and Milam were guiltless of Till's capture and murder. Protected against criminal prosecution, Byant and Milam in public admitted in an interview with Look magazine that they killed Till. Issues in identifying Till affected the trial, partly resulting in Bryant's and Milam's acquittals.
