Tha main purpose of war in Aztec society was to acquire captives for sacrifices. Aztecs depended on trade, agriculture and tribute and conquest to reap tribute was one of the main reasons of the war. However, the other motive was to take captives for religious sacrifices necessary to satisfy the gods.

The Aztec Empire enjoed a supremacy by war or threat of war against its neighboring areas.
