Why is terracing used in Southeast Asian agriculture?

to make land less fertile for farming

B. Due to lack of land to grow food and a giant growing population, the people of Southeast Asia had to find a way to find more room for food and when man made islands did not work, they choose to start terracing which was a great way to use up the room they had.
