Slaves did various manual labors and were owned by skilled artisans or rich high ranked Romans. Ownership of slaves were high in demand in the economy back in the day in the Roman republic. These slaves were a trade. This oppression eventually led the slaves to revolt back and create a revolution, which eventually called for the fall of the Roman republic.
