What must a cell do first to divide successfully?

Before mitosis phase, we have the interphase. The most important event in interphase is the S phase where DNA is replicated so that the same DNA or genetic material will be present in the daughter cells after division. In the interphase, the cell is merely growing and not yet dividing; the cell is preparing for cell division.
